The WAPPING PROJECT opened a rather unusual bookshop a few months ago. For those who don’t know the Wapping Project, I invite you to go and visit their website for a flavour of the place. The redundant hydraulic power station is now inhabited by all sorts of things, thanks to Jules and Josh Wright who brought the place back to life. Artworks, some site-specific, regularly play alongside or with the disused machinery carefully kept and proudly standing on massive concrete pedestals while designers tables and chairs welcome diners for an evening or a day... This is no ordinary place. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when they then decide to open a bookshop, it would be no ordinary bookshop. The power station is vast. However they decided to plant the bookshop outside the building, and expose the books and magazines on sale... in a greenhouse ! with an old stove and a garden bench resembling the ones you find in parisian parks, I can easily imagine myself spending an afternoon skimming through the books. I haven’t had this chance yet, but won’t miss it next time I’m in London, because I’m sure the choice of books will be no ordinary one. I’m expecting to be pleasantly surprised yet another time.

For the bookshop info and readings you can email Lydia Fulton, for all other enquiries regarding the Wapping Project,  call +44 (0)207 680 2080.
